Types of upholstery fabrics

Today on the market you can buy wholesale fabrics for furniture of various types. Let's consider their features.

Jacquard

These are very dense, high-strength fabrics, which are made by weaving a huge number of threads in the smallest possible space. The durability of this material depends on the thickness of the threads themselves. Jacquard has high wear resistance, color fastness, does not fade under direct sun. This textile is durable, easy to care for (you need to wipe it with a dry cloth). Beautiful rich strict designs allow using such material for any interior style. Note that jacquard “does not like” pets, which can pull the threads with their claws.

Thermojacquard

This is a jacquard fabric, but only covered with thermal paper. Production is carried out by transferring dyes in a gaseous state from paper to a white fabric base under the action of high temperature, due to which the dye is deeply fixed in the fiber structure.

Flock

This material has the form of artificial fine-cut pile, applied to a base of cotton, satin, twill, etc. Flock is a soft, pleasant to the touch material that has excellent mechanical strength (tear resistance and protection from pets' claws). Also, this material is resistant to fading and dirt, durable, easy to clean.

Velours

This wholesale upholstery fabric also looks like cut pile, which is made by combining natural fibers with synthetic ones. The fleecy fabrics are non-toxic and easy to clean. They look rich, so they are great for the living room and study. Velor tends to wear out and does not tolerate stains well, therefore it is not recommended to use it for children's rooms, bedrooms and dining areas.

Leatherette

Leather substitute is a fairly durable and high-strength furniture material. It is comfortable to use, has high moisture resistance, non-toxicity, abrasion resistance, and ease of cleaning. The only drawbacks of leatherette are flammability and scratch susceptibility. Furniture covered with leatherette fits organically into the interior of a study or office space.

Chenille

This material is strong and durable, and it is produced by close interweaving of chenille yarn fibers (semi-synthetic, almost inextensible thread, twisted in a spiral shape). The unique structural features of these fibers provide excellent material strength. On the market you can find chenille made from artificial, synthetic and natural fibers.

The main advantages of chenille upholstery materials:

  • a huge selection of colors;
  • do not absorb unpleasant odors;
  • non-toxic;
  • environmentally friendly;
  • hypoallergenic.

Note that chenille quickly absorbs moisture, so it does not accept wet cleaning. The best option for care is dry cleaning.

Tapestry

You can wholesale upholstery fabric that looks like a picture carpet. Tapestry is the oldest furniture material used since the end of the 17th century. These canvases are very dense and heavy, have beautiful colors with patterns, many shades and jacquard weave of fibers. In the production of tapestry, high-quality twisted yarn of wool, cotton, staple or synthetics is used, which can be one- and two-sided, as well as one- and two-layer. Tapestry does not tolerate moisture, so wet cleaning is not quite an option for it.

Furniture suede

There is a woven and non-woven type of suede, the quality of which is influenced by the density, weight and duration of processing. The best suede option is woven. It is durable and strong, but has a higher cost than non-woven. Upholstery suede is a practical material that does not lose its shape, does not fade, and has an initial appeal. Also, this fabric does not accumulate dust and is easy to clean.

Leather

Natural, expensive and very high quality canvases. Usually, the leather of a horse, goat or pig is used in the manufacture of furniture. Such upholstery has a presentable look, so the furniture will certainly become a decoration of the living room, study, office. Leather upholstery can have colorful veins that add originality and elegance to the material.

Matting

It is a type of chenille that has a higher strength. By weaving, the material is similar to burlap, but has a fleecy surface. The mat is made on the basis of natural yarn (linen or cotton), and synthetics are added to increase the durability of upholstery fabric manufacturers . The fibers are woven in pairs to create beautiful checkerboard patterns with raised surfaces. The mat has excellent elasticity, therefore it does not wrinkle and retains its shape well. Such material is very easy to clean - just vacuum the cloth or wipe it with a damp cloth, soft brush, sponge.
